Over time and because of constant use, seals inside the stem wear away, which can lead to leaks either at the handle or the tub spigot. Replacing the stem is a simple job if you have the correct tools and about a half-hour of time. Doing this repair yourself can save you the headache of finding and paying a plumber. Turn the faucet handle to remove any standing water in the plumbing. Locate the center screw that secures the handle to the shower stem. Remove a possible decorative cap at the center of the handle by using a small flat-head screwdriver. Turn the center screw counterclockwise to remove it.

Please Note: Price Pfister has discontinued some of their replacement parts over the years. You can find a list of these discontinued items here. Do we sell Price Pfister Faucets? There are a couple of common signs that a Price Pfister single-handle shower faucet could use a cartridge repair or replacement. Replacing the cartridge will fix this problem, but you can also try simply lubricating the O-rings on the cartridge. Another problem is a water drip when the shower is turned off. In this case, replacing the cartridge is the only solution. Look for shower shutoffs on the water supply pipes near the shower; they may be concealed behind an access panel on the wall opposite the shower, or they might be under the floor if there is a basement or crawlspace below. Your home's main shutoff valve is on the main water supply pipe coming into the house and is probably located in a basement or crawlspace. Loosen and remove the handle screw, which usually requires a Phillips screwdriver.

I remodeled it myself about 4 years ago and lately once shutting the water off its still dripping, to various degrees of leaking. Sometimes its a lot sometimes just a drip here or there, but its annoying and its screwing up my tub so.. Now each one of these single handle systems are different, they all have basically the same type of parts but these repairs will only work with a Price Pfister system, and even still when i went back to the depot to buy replacement parts they didnt have the parts I needed, even though I bought the whole thing there. So what I did worked for me, hopefully if you're experiencing the same kind of problem I had then it'll work for you. Did you use this instructable in your classroom?
